Why use a wood saturator?

Why use a wood saturator?
Have you ever heard of wood saturator ? When we want protect an exterior wood above all, unfavorable climatic conditions, likely to damage its texture and therefore reduce its durability over time, the saturator is the best way to think about. \n

What are the advantages of using a wood saturator?

\nTHE wood saturator has two (2) essential functions: one protective function and one elegance function or aesthetics. \n

Protect the wood with saturator

\nWhen the drink is subject to climatic attackss (bad weather, frost, ultraviolet rays, etc.), because it is outside or because its position inside is not ideal, it turns gray and loses all its shine. This is a phenomenon favored by ultraviolet rays. The wood saturator therefore makes it possible to avoid these alterations to the wood. Likewise, it is a exterior wood waterproofing very effective guaranteeing moisture protection wood. \n

Offer elegance to wood

\nWhether it is interior or exterior wood, new or already treated, the saturator allows it to maintain its natural appearance with complete aesthetics. It deeply nourishes the wood fibers. In addition, the non-opaque nature of the saturator allows it to fully reveal the natural grain of the wood, even when it is stained. Depending on the saturator used, the final appearance on the wood can be matt, shiny or oiled. \nFurthermore, what characterizes, among other things, the wood saturator, in comparison with stains and oils, is its ease of application and maintenance… \n

Wood saturator, how to apply it correctly?

\r\n\n\nEffective application of wood saturator must take into account the weather (temperatures) and the condition of the wood to be treated before implementing the technique. \n

Optimal application temperatures

\nSpring proved to be the ideal time to apply the wood saturator. The temperatures at this time are the best. For application in summer, however, it is recommended to do it very early in the morning or late in the afternoon. The reason is simple: during an application in direct sunlight on exterior wood, the saturator will dry very quickly without giving you time to make a well-distributed display. Whatever the season, when outdoor temperatures are between 10°C and 35°C, you can apply a wood saturator with complete confidence. Finally, it is important to monitor after application of the wood saturator in order to avoid the potential risk of leaching. A period of 48 hours without rain will stabilize the product on the wood. \n

The condition of the wood

\nTHE wood saturator does not apply to unfinished gray wood, with black stains and stripes or non-wood-eating mold. In these conditions, we suspend theapplication of the saturator and we treat the wood upstream. Indeed : \n
    \r\n
  • if the wood is gray on the surface due to weathering due to ultraviolet rays, you should try to reduce the gray appearance by applying a wood stain remover, such as OLEOBOIS or STARWAX.
  • \r\n
  • if the wood is rather blackened, it is necessary to clean it completely with black soap.
  • \r\n
\nFinally, when the wood is new, it is preferable to wait a few weeks of exposure beforeapply a wood saturator. During this time, the pores of the wood will open to facilitate the assimilation of the saturator. This precaution is particularly important with regard to exotic woods which do not soak easily. There are still today wood saturators specially designed for difficult to impregnable woods like exotic woods. \n

Application methodology

\nThe technique consists of apply wood saturator in multiple layers using a brush or roller, until saturation. When there are still deposits of product on the surface, the excess is smoothed with a brush to ensure uniformity in distribution. For large wood faces, you can use the sprayer. However, this material is not recommended because of the risk of overspraying certain parts of the wood. \n\nRead also: Why is roof renovation so important for the good of your home?\r\n

The latter does not require prior stripping or sanding. It is enough to simply clean the wood, before applying a uniform layer of saturator.\n
