Funeral: which flowers to choose?

Funeral: which flowers to choose?
At a funeral, the best flowers are those that carry meaning. To commemorate the memory of a person, they are indeed unmatched. Various symbolic denotations are attributed to them, plants are strongly anchored in many traditions. It is therefore difficult to ignore this important custom or to adopt just any mourning flower\nin the hope that the arrangement will be suitable. Here are some of the most well-known varieties as well as their meaning to help you choose better. \n

Lilies

\nLilies are among the most common mourning flowers because of their beauty, simplicity and elegance. They evoke peace and tranquility and, symbolically, are supposed to restore innocence to the soul of the deceased. However, not all colors are appropriate. White lilies, for example, express purity and are probably the most used at funerals. The oriental lily, for its part, recalls eternal life. It is therefore particularly suitable for religious ceremonies. Finally, the "stargazer" lily, a symbol of sympathy, is universal. \n

Gladioli

\nGladioli are very suitable as mourning flowers. Their long, graceful stem adorned with multiple corollas can reach 1.20 m and, in Latin, the word "gladius" means sword. This gives the plant a symbolism adapted to funerals, inducing strength of character, sincerity and integrity. Gladioli are available in a wide variety of colors, ranging from white to purple, including shades of red, pink, orange, green and yellow. \n

Carnations

\nThe carnation is a very popular mourning flower. Its pleasant scent tastefully accompanies funeral processions and each of its colors symbolizes an emotion. Thus, red carnations recall admiration for a loved one who has left this world. The pink carnations represent remembrance. In white, they evoke pure and innocent love. \n

The roses

\nMany people consider roses to be a gesture of intimate love for a person. If certain colors are indeed better suited to effusive statements, others are perfectly suited to funerals. White roses are those of veneration, innocence, humility and youth. In pink, they are flowers of love, appreciation, grace and kindness. Dark colored roses express sorrow and pain. Friends of the deceased can offer a yellow rose as a token of their loyalty. Finally, a single rose in a bouquet symbolizes immortal love. \n

Moon flowers

\nDelicate and harmonious, these mourning flowers embody innocence, peace and purity after death. In Latin, the term “Spathiphyllum”, the scientific name of this plant, means “peace and prosperity”. Perfect for religious processions where they honor the Virgin, moonflowers are also associated with the resurrection of Christ. Regardless of these connotations, they present a sober appearance of circumstances. \n

Hydrangeas

\nHydrangeas refer to renewal. While these mourning flowers are often offered to families of the deceased to be planted in memory of their loved one, their soft, bright colors and sublime shapes also make them perfect for funeral arrangements. \n

Daffodils and tulips

\nThese flowers evoke renewal, especially when they are yellow. Daffodils and tulips carry a message of encouragement, of joy rediscovered after a difficult moment. Symbols of elegance and grace, tulips represent forgiveness when white and perfect love in red. As for daffodils, they add a colorful and refreshing note to an event where morale needs to be encouraged.\n
