THE VTC demonstrate against their working conditions during the Olympic Games
\n\nBetween strikes and demonstrations, this Olympic summer will have been marked by the mobilization of workers from various sectors. The drivers of VTC are no exception. During this period when demand is high with the influx of spectators coming to attend the Olympic Games, the drivers of VTC mobilized to denounce their working conditions.\n\n
Working conditions denounced
\n\nThey are protesting against what they consider to be exploitation. The hours are long, sometimes up to 16 hours a day, not to mention the often unsatisfactory safety conditions, both for drivers and customers. In addition, the majority of these workers complain of low pay despite the high number of hours worked.\n\n
Make their voices heard
\n\nFaced with the passivity of the authorities and booking platforms, the drivers decided to make themselves heard. They mobilized and organized protest actions throughout the period of Olympic Games. Their goal: to attract the attention of the media and the public to their cause and to encourage decision-makers to take concrete measures to improve their working conditions.\n\n
The response of booking platforms
\n\nOn the booking platforms side, we defend ourselves by asserting that the majority of drivers are satisfied with their working conditions. They also argue that working hours are flexible, and drivers can choose to work whenever they want. However, according to drivers VTC, this “flexibility” is more of a synonym for precariousness than a real advantage.\n\n
And after the Olympic Games?
\n\nIf the media coverage of Olympic Games offers a platform for these events, the drivers of VTC assure that their mobilization will not stop at the end of the competitions. They hope that this fight will allow them to obtain fairer working conditions and better recognition of their profession.\n\nUltimately, the Olympic Games are affected by another kind of competition: that for workers’ rights. The drivers of VTC decided to seize this opportunity to assert their rights and demand change. \n\n
