Turkish President Benjamin Netanyahu is no longer a person you can talk to
Benyamin Netanyahu: a less and less credible interlocutor in the eyes of the President of Turkey?
\n\nIn the ballet of international diplomacy, every step, every word counts. The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, reiterated this again, saying that the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, is “no longer someone you can talk to.”>\n\n
An increasingly tense relationship
\n\nRelations between Turkey and Israel have always been marked by ups and downs. But in recent years, the trend has been towards cooling. It must be said that the sometimes controversial positions taken by the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, are not to the taste of the Turkish president.
\n\nStatements that go wrong
\n\nThe head of the Israeli government, regularly singled out for his colonization policy in the West Bank, is today considered by Recep Tayyip Erdogan as a less and less credible interlocutor. The latter's statements, which accuse Netanyahu of "state terror" and violating "human rights", reflect the growing unease between the two men.
\n\nA broken dialogue
\n\nWhile it is natural for disagreements to arise between two leaders with different political visions, the danger lies in the total absence of dialogue. By asserting that Benjamin Netanyahu is “no longer someone we can talk to”, Erdogan seems to close the door to any discussion. A state of affairs which could ultimately prove dangerous for the stability of this region of the Middle East.
\n\nDiplomacy and the future of bilateral relations
\n\nDespite the tightening of tensions, diplomacy must always maintain a central place in the management of relations between Israel and Turkey. The regional situation, marked by multiple and complex conflicts, requires all actors to remain around the negotiating table. The declaration ofErdogan concerning Netanyahu however, illustrates the difficulty in maintaining a constructive dialogue in this difficult context.
