Since the start of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the United Nations agency has noted a worrying increase in cases of forced movement of Ukrainian children to Russia. According to reports, these children are taken from their families and familiar surroundings and transported to Russian territory under various pretexts, including “for protection” or “for medical treatment”.

A notorious violation of children's rights

There International Convention on the Rights of the Child, which was ratified by both Ukraine and Russia, clearly states that every child has the right not to be separated from their parents against their will. Furthermore, he has the right to be protected against any form of illegal displacement or deportation. The UN therefore considers these actions to be a flagrant violation of children's rights.

L'UN urges the Russia to immediately stop these inhumane and illegal practices. She also requests that all Ukrainian children currently on Russian territory be allowed to return home immediately and unconditionally, except in cases of imminent danger to their well-being. It also urges all countries to respect and implement the provisions of the International Convention on the Rights of the Child without exception.
