The Olympic year in “93” seen by eight young people
As the big Olympic event draws closer, eight young people from Seine-Saint-Denis, also known by the departmental number “93”, talk about their experience and their impressions of this global event which will be held at their home. doors in 2024. A springboard for some, a source of pride for all.
Young people's view of the Olympic year
“93”, it is the colloquial name of Seine-Saint-Denis, a Parisian suburb department characterized by its youth, its diversity and its boundless energy. Take eight of these young people, from different communities and with different backgrounds, and ask them to share their thoughts on the arrival of the Olympic Games in 2024. Their answers are a mixture of pride, hope and realism.
Rose, 16, from Saint-Ouen, admits that the idea of seeing theOlympic year happening almost on her doorstep makes her incredibly horny. “I would have the opportunity to see athletes that I usually watch on TV,” she says enthusiastically.
Yann, 18, from Saint-Denis, sees things from a more pragmatic angle. “A successful organization of the Olympic Games could really help improve the image of the 93,” he believes.
A source of inspiration for future generations
For Kevin, 19, and wanting to become a physical education teacher, this is a great opportunity to show students what sport can achieve. “Not only athletically, but also to promote unity and inclusion,” he explains.
Opportunities for the 93
Beyond the sporting aspects, theOlympic year also represents, for these young people, a fantastic opportunity to develop “93”. They unanimously mention the potential impact on employment, tourism and local infrastructure.
Far from being blind to the socio-economic challenges of their department, these eight young people remain positive and believe in what the potential of these Olympic Games can offer their territory.
This Olympic challenge is a unique opportunity, an opportunity for this department too often stigmatized to show the whole world its authentic, dynamic and warm face. It is an opportunity to prove that here, in the "93", despite the obstacles, the spirit of struggle, resilience and hope is more alive than ever. And these eight young people will not say otherwise.
