\n\nIt is often said that sport has the power to transform lives. For Ryadh Sallem, it is not a simple sentence, but a reality that has “ saved twice ". Born in Algeria, Ryadh was afflicted with a birth defect that left him paraplegic at the age of 15. Instead of capitulating in the face of this heavy handicap, Ryadh drew on the sport an unwavering motivation and strength, which allowed him to live an extraordinary life.\n\n
Sport, a lifeline in adversity
\n\nRyadh's first rescue through sport came shortly after his accident. Wind up against the fate which seemed to be attacking him, Ryadh refuses to stay locked up at home and to be defined by his handicap. He then finds an outlet in sport, a way to escape sadness and isolation.\n\nWith swimming as his first discipline, Ryadh discovered a passion for sport, and a desire to surpass himself despite obstacles. He will quickly excel, becoming a competitive swimmer.\n\n
From shadow to light: an example of success
\n\nAfter winning its battle against disability and marginalization, Ryadh is experiencing a second form of rescue through sport. By putting on the cleats and competing against other players on the rugby field, he found a new path for his career.\n\nRyadh doesn't stop there. He continues his rise in the world of sport and becomes a key player in the promotion of Paralympic sport in France. He co-founded CAPSAAA, an association which supports access to sport for all people with disabilities.\n\nThus, sport is not just a hobby for Ryadh Sallem, it is a real means of survival which has helped him to overcome insurmountable challenges. Today, Ryadh continues to inspire others and show that no obstacle can hinder the will to succeed.\n\nDue to his determination and his exceptional career, Ryadh Sallem is living proof that a difficulty can become an opportunity, and that sport is much more than a simple discipline, but a real lifeline capable of “ save " the life. \n\n
