Paris 2024 Olympic Games: Runner Lucas Chevalier facing uncertain knee surgery

\n\nThe French long-distance runner, Lucas Chevalier, could see his dream of participating in Paris Olympic Games in 2024 in danger following a knee injury requiring imminent surgery.\n\n

An injury that casts doubt on his participation

\n\nLucas Chevalier, the French middle-distance prodigy, announced Monday that he would have knee surgery following an injury he aggravated during his last competition. It is currently uncertain whether the rider will be able to recover in time for the next Paris 2024 Olympic Games.\n\n"Honestly, I don't know if I will be ready for the Games. It's a bit of a race against time now," Chevalier said at a press conference.\n\n

The operation: a necessity for the future of his career

\n\nAccording to doctors, this operation is inevitable to avoid long-term damage that could end Chevalier's career. However, the recovery time remains uncertain.\n\n“Usually, recovery from such a procedure can take six months to a year,” said Dr. Jean-Pierre Boulanger, one of France's most renowned orthopedic surgeons. Boulanger added: "In Lucas' case, given his level of physical activity and his goals for Paris 2024 Olympic Games, we are doing everything possible to speed up his rehabilitation. We are optimistic, but we have to be realistic.”\n\n

Suspended dreams

\n\nThe 28-year-old runner had high hopes for the Paris Olympics. After finishing fourth in 10,000 meters in Rio in 2016, Chevalier put his all into preparing for 2024. His dream could be put on hold due to this injury, but in the champion's mind, the battle is far from over.\n\n"Honestly, I'm not ready to give up. The Games are two years away and I still believe in my chances. I'm going to give everything during my rehabilitation," Chevalier said.\n\nWhile his fans, his loved ones and the whole of France send him messages of support, Lucas remains combative. Let's wish our champion a speedy recovery and hope to see him on the track Stade de France in Saint-Denis during the Paris Olympics in 2024. \n\n
