Stone-throwing affair: OM escapes sanctions
\n\nThe incident between Olympique de Marseille (OM) and Olympique Lyonnais (OL) on Sunday February 12 when the Lyonnais arrived at the Vélodrome stadium has caused a lot of ink to flow. Several days after the event, OM will not be sanctioned after the stoning from the players' bus OL. \n\n
Context of the event
\n\nIt was during the 25th day of Ligue 1 that the incident took place. Upon their arrival at the stadium, the OL buses were targeted by Marseille supporters. An act which did not leave the world of football indifferent and which aroused indignation and disapproval from the leaders of the two clubs.\n\n
No sanctions for OM
\n\nDespite the scale of the event and the emotion it aroused, OM will not be sanctioned. A choice of the Professional Football League (LFP) which preferred to focus on individual rather than collective responsibilities. In other words, she decided to punish the culprits of these acts and not the Marseille club.\n\nThis decision is justified by the fact that these actions are not directly the responsibility of the club as such but rather of the supporters who committed these offenses. The Marseille team did not itself incite this violence, so no sanction was applied to it.\n\nFor its part, OL expressed its dissatisfaction with this outcome. For the Lyon club, this type of behavior must be severely punished and clubs have some responsibility for the behavior of their supporters.\n\n
A precedent that could set a precedent
\n\nThe absence of sanction for OM after the stoning from the busOL is a precedent that could set a precedent in the world of football. This is the first time such a decision has been made, and it could have repercussions for similar incidents in the future. \n\nIt indeed raises a fundamental question: how far does a club's responsibility extend with regard to violent behavior on the part of its supporters? And what could be the repercussions for the club in the event of incidents? \n\nSo many questions that the LFP will have to answer in the years to come. The OM stone-throwing affair will undoubtedly be an example that will serve as a reference in the future. \n\n
