The LFP has just validated the abolition of the League Cup, from the 2020 season. The competition is thus suspended this season, even if it could always be reborn in the future. \n\n\n
League Cup canceled due to lack of attendance?
\n\n\n
The French League Cup, organized by the
Professional Football League (LFP), will no longer be relevant. So decided the General Assembly of the clubs. The main reason given is the lack of public interest in the tournament. In fact, created in
1994, competition, which coexists with
French Cup organized by the Federation, lost public support, to the point that last December, no television channel bought its rights for the next four editions. \n\n\n
Beneficial in terms of club human resources management?
\n\n\nFaced with this situation, the General Assembly of the
LFP has suspended the competition for this season, although the possibility of restarting it in the future remains. “This decision will make it possible to lighten the competition schedule and have more recovery time for the players,” specifies the
LFP in a press release. Which press release adds that this could also have a positive effect on the index
UEFA teams of the
League 1. \n\n\n
Clubs will have to focus on the remaining competitions
\n\n\nIn addition, French clubs made this decision after unsuccessfully studying various reform formats of the
League Cup. One of them suggested that the eight best clubs from the previous edition meet during the winter break: quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. Yet another, create four regional groups from which we would identify four teams for the axis square. \n\n\n\nGood or bad decision, the future will tell us. See you soon on
