Son of Yonne and prominent figure of the French right, Jean-Pierre Soisson, former minister and deputy, died this Monday, September 20 at the age of 89.
A dense political career
Originally from Sens, Jean-Pierre Soisson is a key figure on the Republican right. Having started his political career in 1962 as a deputy for Yonne, Mr. Soisson held several ministerial positions during the governments of Raymond Barre and Jacques Chirac. He was notably Minister of Labor, Employment and Vocational Training, Minister of National Education and Minister of Agriculture.
A man close to his territory
Despite his national functions, Jean-Pierre Soisson has always known how to stay close to its territory and its roots. Elected mayor of Auxerre in 1971, he left his mark on the city, while remaining attentive to its residents for almost 20 years.
