In Perpignan, we followed a highway blockade by angry farmers
HAS Perpignan, an agricultural protest movement led to the closure of a portion of the A9 motorway this Tuesday. Tractors blocked the path, causing traffic to come to a complete standstill in the middle of the day.
The reasons for the blockage
THE angry farmers are protesting against the economic repercussions of the health crisis on their activity, which they consider insufficiently compensated by the government. They also criticize the increasingly strict environmental standards imposed by the EU.
The process of blocking
The blockage began early in the morning, with around ten tractors parked on the road. Despite the intervention of the police, the situation did not change until the end of the afternoon. THE angry farmers maintained their position, refusing to release the highway.
Support from the population
Although this blockage caused inconvenience for motorists, part of the local population showed their support for the angry farmers, understanding their despair in the face of a difficult economic situation.
