Hospitals, new targets of IDF on the 37th day of the conflict
An escalation of violence which causes concern
Since the start of the conflict, Palestinian health infrastructure has been in the sights of IDF. On the 37th day of the conflict, this trend appears to be worsening, raising fears of an escalation of violence.
Numerous reports denounce a strategy which would directly target medical infrastructures. These attacks, which occur in the heart of an increasingly complex military conflict, are in flagrant contradiction with the rules of international law, which strictly prohibit targeting hospitals.
Hospitals under pressure
The conflict, which has now lasted more than a month, has placed enormous strain on the already fragile Palestinian health system. Hospitals, on the front line to treat the injured, are overwhelmed.
The escalation of attacks on these health structures has considerably reduced their capacity to effectively treat victims of the conflict. Not only does the destruction of essential medical equipment severely hamper the response to the needs of the injured, but the inability to bring in medical equipment due to the blockade complicates the situation even more.
An alarming situation
The increase in direct attacks against hospitals on the 37th day of the conflict illustrates the intensity of the humanitarian crisis currently playing out.
Despite repeated appeals from humanitarian organizations and the UN, IDF continues to target medical structures. Medical staff, exhausted and understaffed, fear they will no longer be able to provide the necessary care to the many injured.
In conclusion, the situation is becoming more and more alarming. Hospitals should never be a target in conflict. It is urgent that all parties respect international law and act to protect civilians and health infrastructure.
