Haiti in deep crisis: The United States withdraws part of its troops in the face of gang violence.

Haiti in chaos: the United States evacuates some of its personnel in the face of gang attacks

\n\nThe situation in Haiti is rapidly deteriorating with increasing violent gang activity. In response to this crisis, UNITED STATES began to evacuate some of their staff.\n\n

Haiti on the brink

\n\nFor months, an unprecedented socio-political crisis has shaken Haiti, an already fragile country, faced with poverty and regular natural disasters. This situation stemming in particular from the growing insecurity linked to the emergence of gangs powerful, uncontrolled inflation and recurring political crises.\n\nThe capital, Port-au-Prince, is today the scene of incessant clashes between the police and the gangs who control large portions of the city. Kidnappings, armed attacks and acts of violence have become commonplace, making daily life unbearable for the Haitian population.\n\n

Evacuation of American personnel

\n\nFaced with this escalation of violence, the United States made the decision toevacuate part of their staff based in Haiti. An approach which reflects the growing concern of the international community about the chronic instability reigning in the country. \n\nIt should be noted that the American embassy in Haiti remains open but provides limited services due to insecurity. The United States also issued a travel warning, advising them to reassess their travel plans to the Caribbean country.\n\n

What about the future of Haiti?

\n\nWhile the violence of gangs shows no signs of slowing down, the situation in Haiti remains uncertain. The United Nations and various humanitarian organizations have expressed concern about the humanitarian situation which is deteriorating day by day. \n\nThe need for a lasting political resolution in Haiti is more pressing than ever. However, so far, no solution has been considered that could put an end to these gang attacks and bring calm and security to the conflict-torn country. THE UNITED STATES, like other world powers, will have a major role to play in supporting Haiti during this dark period. \n\n
