Georgia's appeal to the United States

The President of Georgia is closely following the situation in Odessa, driven by deep concern. In a conversation with journalists, she said: "We are concerned about the situation in Ukraine, and we believe that the United States, as the main guarantor of security in this region, should take more active measures to support kyiv.” \n\nMs Zurabishvili then recalls that her country has always supported the territorial integrity of Ukraine, and fears that Russia's aggressive gesture will worsen the situation in an already tense region.\n\n

Blocked military support

The US military assistance program to Ukraine has been blocked since last November due to concerns about corruption within the Ukrainian government. This freeze has provoked strong criticism from both the US Congress and Ukraine's other international partners. Critics argue that this aid is essential to Ukraine's defense against Russian aggression.

The American reaction

American officials have not yet responded to the Georgian president's call. However, they have previously expressed consistent support for Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression, and may recalibrate their assistance policy in the current context.

The situation in Ukraine is under surveillance and the possible release of American military aid is one of the solutions envisaged in the face of escalating tensions.
