Five years later, Yellow Vests still present on roundabouts, an inaudible cry of revolt

\n\nFive years ago, a yellow wave overwhelmed the roundabouts of France. A unique popular movement, which saw ordinary citizens, dressed in yellow vests, express their discontent with an increasingly expensive life and a growing income disparity. Today, while many thought that the movement had run out of steam, there are still yellow vests on roundabouts. A persistent presence which testifies that, despite time, “the problems are still there”.\n\n

A persistent movement despite time

\n\nOn the first anniversary of the yellow vest mobilization, many wondered if the movement still had a reason to exist. But the fact that yellow vests are still present on the roundabouts five years after their initial appearance underlines the deep roots of their anger and their tenacious voluntarism. For them, even if the movement has changed and lost its original fervor, the respite is only apparent, because “the problems are still there”.\n\n

“The problems are still there”

\n\nSo what are these problems that persist and motivate these demonstrators to remain mobilized? These are above all socio-economic issues. Tax injustice, job insecurity, the cost of living... so many problems which have not been resolved and which have even worsened in certain cases. The relationship with the environment, access to health services and education are other societal problems which still maintain yellow vests on the roundabouts.\n\n

A movement still relevant?

\n\nDespite the movement's slowdown, some yellow vests are still claiming their place on the roundabouts. Although their numbers have dwindled, their determination has not wavered. For them, their presence is a reminder of the government's inaction in the face of their demands and maintains a certain pressure on the authorities. \n\nFor these activists, advocating for a better redistribution of wealth, equitable access to public services and a revaluation of work will never be out of date demands. So, even fifty years later, there could still be a yellow vest on a roundabout, a powerful symbol which loudly proclaims that, as long as the problems are there, they will be too. \n\nIn conclusion, the image of yellow vests on roundabouts will remain engraved in the contemporary history of France. These ordinary French people have managed to draw attention to major problems in our society, and to make their voices heard. Their persistence demonstrates that the fight is far from over. \n\n
