\r\nGilyard made his television debut in 1978 with an appearance on the series The Waltons. He went on to appear in many other television series over the years, including CHiPs, Magnum P.I., Matt Houston, Simon and Simon and Matlock. In 1988, he landed his most famous role, as John McClane's partner, Sergeant Al Powell, a security officer for the Nakatomi Plaza, in DieHard.
