Clarence Gilyard Jr. was an American actor known for his roles in DieHard And Walker, Texas Ranger. He also appeared in a number of other films and television series during his career. Clarence Gilyard was born in Moses Lake, Washington, on December 24, 1955. He attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where he studied acting. After graduation, he moved to New York to pursue an acting career

These beginnings in the series The Waltons

Gilyard made his television debut in 1978 with an appearance on the series The Waltons. He went on to appear in many other television series over the years, including CHiPs, Magnum P.I., Matt Houston, Simon and Simon and Matlock. In 1988, he landed his most famous role, as John McClane's partner, Sergeant Al Powell, a security officer for the Nakatomi Plaza, in DieHard.
