Clearly Beaune denies that the policy aims to get rid of the homeless before the 2024 Paris Olympics

Paris 2024: the “hunt for the homeless” before the Olympics?

Clément Beaune denies any “policy in this sense”

A hot topic has attracted media attention recently, namely the plight of homeless people, often referred to by the acronym Homeless, in the run-up to the Paris Olympic Games in 2024 (affectionately called Olympic Games). Rumors are circulating about a so-called “homeless hunt” which is underway in the Metropolis. Faced with the magnitude of these rumors, Clement Beaune, the Secretary of State for European Affairs, wanted to clarify the government's position. “No policy in this sense” he declares, an assertion which invalidates the certainties of some who claim that the French state intends to “clean” the streets of Paris of homeless people before the major sporting event.

A question of humanism and brand image

The fear of a bad image as the Olympics approach

Nevertheless, these allegations resonated with many defenders of the rights of people in precarious situations. Their fear: that the appearance of Paris 2024 Olympics does not serve as a pretext for sidelining the most marginalized populations. The rumor of a hunt for Homeless could simply emerge from this fear, fueled by the legitimate concern that the most vulnerable people will once again be relegated to the background during a major event like the Olympics.

The government's reaction to the affair

Clément Beaune and his formal denial

Clement Beaune therefore deemed it necessary to react and deny any project of this type. In his own words, there is “no policy in this sense”. This is a statement which suggests that the government is well aware of this problem and refuses to consider solutions which could undermine the dignity of people in vulnerable situations. Despite the suspicions weighing on the French government, the latter therefore maintains its commitment to the Olympic Games and to respect for the fundamental rights of all citizens. It remains to be hoped that these promises will be honored, for a Paris 2024 which reflects both the sporting and social diversity of the French capital.
