Call for an end to blockades by the FNSEA and the JA following Gabriel Attal's statements: Disgruntled farmers respond

Angry farmers: the FNSEA and JA call to “suspend the blockades” after Gabriel Attal’s announcements

\n\nIn response to ongoing protests by French farmers, the National Federation of Farmers' Unions (FNSEA) and the Young Farmers Union (JA) called for "suspending the blockades" following the announcements by the government spokesperson, Gabriel Attal.\n\n

Context of agricultural blockages

\n\nFarmers, furious at falling prices and the instability of their income, have been protesting for weeks, sometimes paralyzing towns with tractors and blocking access to fuel depots and purchasing centers. This anger is due in part to international trade treaties, such as the free trade agreement with Mercosur (Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay), which they say threaten their survival.\n\n

Announcements from Gabriel Attal

\n\nIn response to this crisis, Gabriel Attal announced a number of measures aimed at addressing farmers' concerns. Among these announcements, we find the examination of the cost of production in the formation of prices, the compensation of farmers for agricultural calamities and the support for innovation and ecological conversion. \n\n

Call for suspension of blockages by FNSEA and JA

\n\nAfter Gabriel Attal's announcements, the FNSEA and the JA expressed that it was time to suspend the blockades to give a chance for dialogue and the proposed measures to take effect.\n\n“We ask our fellow farmers to suspend the blockades to give the government time to implement the measures announced,” declared Jérôme Despey, secretary general of the FNSEA. “We will remain vigilant and ready to resume our movement if these commitments are not kept.”\n\nThis statement was supported by Samuel Vandaele, president of the J.A., who stressed that the suspension of blockades is not the end of their mobilization. “We will remain mobilized and attentive to the rapid implementation of these measures. Our future depends on their effective implementation,” he said.\n\n

A step towards dialogue

\n\nThis call for the suspension of blockages by the FNSEA and the J.A. represents an openness to dialogue and a hope for a viable solution to the crisis that French farmers are going through. However, the unions remain on alert, ready to relaunch the mobilization if the promised measures are not implemented quickly and effectively. \n\n
